Tragic news reaching the Campus Bee news desk indicates that Kyambogo University has lost a student and a Staff Member; all relating to Covid-19 complications. The student who has been identified as Doreen Mirembe Juliet, succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 after she had been under close care at Victoria Hospital.
The deceased student was in her second academic year pursing a Bachelor’s of Teacher Education (BTE) before she breathed her last. The demise comes at a time when the University witnessed a shocking spike in COVID-19 infections amongst the students in the last two-three weeks.

The University hasn’t come out to make an official statement about the student’s demise, however some of the students Campus Bee contacted, confirm that the deceased was one of their own.
Also, a staff member at the University, Ms Sharon Atwine was pronounced dead after post mortem results showed she succumbed to the COVID-19 virus.

The deceased staff member was a Nursery Teacher at the department of Psychology. Earlier on, the University Management, followed advice from a team of health experts led by Dr. Monica Musenero (Senior Presidential Adviser on Epidemics and Pandemic) to close the institution for atleast 10 days.
The campus is being closed for a fortnight to combat the virus’ spread. Yesterday, Campus Bee published a viral photo showing patients being airlifted from Kyambogo University West-End Pitch. What was not clear however was the condition in which those patients were, to be airlifted to hospital.
The president is set to address the nation today on the measures to be employed to combat the resurgence of the deadly pandemic. Rumour has it that the national task force resolved to close schools and institutions of learning until an appropriate solution is come to.May the Soul of the deceased Rest in eternal Peace.
