While many of you wined and lazed on Sunday, cooks from around Kampala were busy tussling it out at the spacious Seven Tree Gardens, Wampewo Avenue to vet who is the exceptional cook around the streets of Kampala. Dubbed the Twist & Cuts cooking competition, the deluxe event brought together a number of cooks to tussle it out in the battles of the kitchen.
At exactly 12pm, revelers were treated to amazing meals already as the cooks gave out tips on how be a good chef using different recipes. Kampala Food Network,the event organizers selected the 10 best in an online poll that saw over 11,000 people select their best cooks. By 3pm when the second round had kicked off, cooks were preparing.
“The competition started online and people were tasked to cook using Club twist or Mega milk then post their products online and then we voted as members. About 11,000 people responded and the event was super mega for the organizers. However, after vetting only ten people made it to the semi finals.”, said Mark Kaheru the brains behind the project.
The semi finals ended at 1:30pm and the last five cooks were eliminated by the judges that included James Onen popularly known as Fat Boy “a food enthusiastic, radio diva Miss Dedan, Elvis Kalema and Kavuta Sserenkuma, the CEO of Kampala Food Network.
Sheila Anayo emerged winner of the five that made it to the finals, taking the Shs500,000 from the 1.7million that was split amongst other winners. The second runners up prize went to Marlene Clove who got shs250,000 cash prize and Mega Milk.
According to Club Twist, the main sponsors of the event, the competition is intended to celebrate the growing vibrant food culture in Uganda and will be running annually after receiving a positive response this year.
