It never got hotter, it never got more exciting, it never turned out more unpredictable. 9th March 2022 was the day Kyambogo University students had long waited for, a day when they would choose their new leaders that is the Guild President, the faculty GRCs and the Hall GRCs.

Tumwine Serge of FDC, came through as the Guild President elect Kyambogo University with 5116 votes overall, something that was very possible because he won with a high range number of votes from every faculty.

The guild Presidential race had never been so tight like it was this year. With five guild presidential candidates in the race, it was so difficult for the common man to predict who exactly was going to come out winner.

Mandu Mandwa Elijah of NUP, Wycliffe Amwesiga Morgan of NRM, Ssekanjako Masudi of People Power, Serge Tumwine of FDC and Ronald Emanzi of ANT were the courageous of men to have aspired for the guild presidency this year.

The beginning of this week saw all the five hold their final campaign rallies. It’s not yet forgotten the chaos that was all over Banda in form of the traffic jam, noise and screaming from everywhere.

Everyone at that time hoped to win, for they always say that numbers never lie, and thus everyone had thousands. It’s been a tense time, every one doing what they consider their best finally the deciding day came to pass.

During the voting, there was chaos at quite a number of polling stations caused by disagreements between the voters and polling assistors that called for the intervention of the concerned.

Tear gas canisters burst in different places warning the voters of the worst yet to come if they didn’t stay calm and stop causing confusion. Indeed, this was the solution to the problem.

Mandu Mandwa Elijah came as number two and Masudi of people power, lost in nearly all faculties. It is to be remembered though that Masudi was the one the current Guild President John Mbaziira endorsed for guild presidency. Below is the faculty score of the different guild presidential candidates.

It’s such a moment of jubilation, excitement and celebration as the students who voted Serge celebrated his win with music and dancing at the student center.

One of the reasons for the FDC win over NUP is the division in the NUP party as there was both NUP and People Power. The fact that Mandwa and Masudi seemed to be from the same political party resulted into the division of the votes between them from the people who believe in both NUP and People Power.

The other reason is that FDC as a party was better organized and than any other.
