Former Chief Justice Bart M. Katureebe has been appointed to be the new Chancellor of Uganda Management Institute (UMI), a government-owned national center for training, research, and consultancy in the field of management and administration in the country. It is on a similar level of public universities and degree-awarding institutions outside the military.
Mr Katureebe will replace former Education Minister Namirembe Bitamazire and this restructuring was confirmed with an archived presidential confirmation made public today. The document signed on 6th June by President Museveni indicated the reshuffle as quoted below;
“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by Section 30(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001, as amended, I Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni do hereby appoint Bart M Katureebe Chancellor of Uganda Management Institute for a period of four years with effect from the date of assumption of duty.”
Katureebe was appointed a justice of the Supreme Court in 2005. On 5 March 2015, he was appointed chief justice till 20th June 2020 when he marked his last day in office as a chief justice of the Republic of Uganda and hand handed over to his Deputy Alfonse OWiny-Dollo to be the Acting Chief Justice.
