The Ministry of Education and Sports has notified this website of a plan to reopen schools across the country; formerly closed as per the Presidential directive to limit the spread of the the covid-19 pandemic.
With a decline in the daily covid related cases, a crisis meeting between Education Ministry, district and municipal education officers, and school representatives across the country agreed to review the current state of affairs and send learners back to their institutions.
This ploy is aimed at effective recovery of lost academic time for learners to proceed to next respective classes.
Government’s plan for school reopening will be a phased one with weeks of accelerated studies. Yesterday, it was agreed to reopen schools in the first two weeks of September and for universities and other tertiary institutions, government will prioritise reopening for finalists.
As for newcomers. It is not clear when the incoming (freshers, S1 and S5 students) whose exams were released last month, will start. P1 to P3 as well as S1 and S2 students will be given priority. When schools reopen, P1 to P3 pupils and S1 and S2 students will undergo 14 weeks of accelerated essential curriculum coverage for progression to the next class.
Government has proposed to admit all leaners above six years of age to P1 irrespective of whether they have been through nursery schools or not.
