Gulu University, with one of the leading medical schools in the land, has today commenced a vaccination programme for its stakeholders, especially medical students reporting back for studies. The institution opened its doors last week to a few leaners as earlier guided by the authorities.
Earlier this month, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) okayed reopening of schools teaching health-related courses starting Friday 13th, last week. The inter-ministerial meeting held on August 4 agreed to reopen medical schools for these students would be in a staggered manner.
With this background, Gulu University has reacted by administering Covid-19 jabs to the already available students with plans to expand the operation.
The University’s Public Relations revealed that priority in the vaccination exercise was granted to the medical students that are more exposed to the virus since they are practitioners in some Health facilities.
Pace has been set for other Universities that are yet to secure jabs for their students, leaving learners at a higher risk of contracting the deadly virus.
To date, Uganda has only vaccinated at least 1,178,300 people; per Ministry of Health data
