Huawei Consumer Business Group Uganda handed over 24 smartphones to pupils of the Uganda School for the Deaf- Ntinda, to help them through their education and daily activities.
This was done during MTN’s 10th edition of the 21 days of Y’ello Care; a staff volunteerism project that aims to continue driving access to education, particularly through the digitalization of teaching and learning in the countries in which MTN operates. This year the project is running under the theme “Investing in Education for All”.
Mr. Derek Liu TeGuang, Huawei Uganda Account Manager said “Huawei as an organization is dedicated to supporting and investing in the future of Uganda through the young. Regardless of the condition any child might be in, they are entitled to education and above all access to technology that helps widen their thinking.”
He further thanked MTN Uganda for granting Huawei Uganda this great opportunity to partner with them and help change lives of the children in Uganda.
Speaking at the event, MrMbwosi Jackson the Head teacher Uganda School for the Deaf-Ntinda thanked MTN and its partners such as Huawei Uganda, Fenix International, Simba telecom among others for taking the initiative to help the pupils of the school. He said, “These phones that Huawei has given us today will be used by the pupils mainly over the weekends and during their free time to send text messages to their parents to let them know they are well and also to do some academic research”
