The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Huawei Technologies Uganda Ltd have to establish a Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA) at the academic institution.
The MoU was signed on Friday, 27th August, 2021 at Serena Hotel in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
IUIU Rector Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda says the Huawei based IUIU-ICT Academy will equip students with an understanding of cutting-edge technologies.
“Through this partnership, we will ensure that ICT courses keep up with new trends, and use guaranteed teaching materials that are related to industry practices,” Dr Gyagenda says.
In his remarks, the ICT Manager for IUIU, Dr. Chemisto Musa says the IUIU-Huawei MoU is intended to further accelerate IUIU’s digitalization efforts, which in the long run will help IUIU students to become more employable.
“Although we had already stepped up our digitalization efforts, the IUIU-Huawei partnership will give us an opportunity to use new digital technologies to change our business model to increase value-producing opportunities and provide new revenue opportunities,” Dr Chemusto says.
The ICT Manager also added that IUIU students are now eligible to participate in the 2021 Huawei ICT Competitions, and that they have a higher chance of winning especially given their innovation level.
Mr. Gao Fei Gavin, the Managing Director Huawei Technologies Uganda Ltd presented an ICT Academy Certificate to the IUIU team which was led by the Rector Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda.
The IUIU-HAINA (IUIU-ICT Academy) is certified and authorized by Huawei to teach official technical and certification training to its students using the Huawei authorized training curriculum and tools.
The event was attended by the Prime Minister of Uganda Right Honorable Robinah Nabbanja, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance Honorable Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and the State Minister for Higher Education Honorable Dr. John C. Muyingo.
The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) at advanced stage to digitalize the institution. For example, the university developed its own Academic Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) that among others is used by students to effectively learn online in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
