The joint University Leaders have celebrated a milestone in the “Fix Education in Uganda Campaign” that was launched to tackle the flaws in the Education sector. The campaigned gained more momentum with the then continued closure of the learning centers during the partial lockdown regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
A Joint Press Conference by Guild Presidents (about a month ago) from top Universities across the land directed fury towards the Education Ministry demanding for immediate reforms regarding the handling of the Covid-19 crisis.
As the Campaign started some of the demands therein included;
•A vaccination plan for students and teachers.
• Setting reopening dates for institutions of learning.
•Increasing Education funding.
Among others, the Guild leaders engaged different stakeholders including the Office of the Minister For Education And Sports to whom they gave an ultimatum of 30 days to respond to the demands they stated in the letter issued to her office and even looked into calling for her resignation incase she failed to respond to these demands.
“On the 29th Day of the 30 day ultimatum Gen. Museveni addressed the nation and in turn addressed some of our concerns such as revealing reopening dates as well as a vaccination plan as we had earlier on demanded,” one of the leaders stated.
However we are yet to receive the way forward by the group as regards to the demand for increase in Education Funding.
