The search for the Miss Tourism Uganda 2017-2018 came to a climax yesterday at Serena Hotel’s Victoria hall with Karamoja’s Challa Elma Kapel scooping the biggest award of the night.
The nineteen-year-old saw off competition from twelve other beauty queens from different region’s with her awesome performance, wowing the judges with her command in English and self confidence and beating Ankole region’s 23-year-old, Anita Ayebare who became the 2nd runner up and Amuge Gertrude Olungu 20′ from Teso region settling for the 1st runner up.
The event started as early as 6pm hosted by ‘Nature Boy’ Shaban and ‘Double trouble’ Shanita with performances from musician Irene Ntale, Fusion band and speeches from several other invited guests among which was the Minister of Tourism, Wild Life and Antiquities who gave her respect to the fallen former minister for Tourism, Maria Mutagamba who passed on earlier this year succumbing to liver cancer at Case Hospital. She was was honoured for her love for youth, environment, tourism and water.
The contestants hit stage with memoriam of the late Hon. Maria Mutagamba, show cased outfits and they were introduced to the audience before a question and answer session where seven were eliminated and the final five took stage in designs made by Fatuma Asha, a Ugandan fashion designer for the last activity of the night where Challa Elma Kapel from Kotido, Karamoja region merged winner.
Among the other winners, Nakimoni Mary was awarded Miss Tourism Independent for overcoming disability, Alele Gloria emerged the Face of Ssese Habitant Resort and was given a 2 nights fully paid ticket to the Kalangala based resort.
Anita Ayebare scooped the Face of Radiant beauty products, Challa Elema took home the Miss popularity award, Aanyu Jessica Sheila was the Miss Photogenic among other winners with Getrude Jokudu taking home 3 awards including Miss Personality, Miss Tourism Multi Media and Sports personality.
At about 2:15 am, The top five contestants were paraded before the judges and the winner was to determined through considering the presentation skills, stage presence, speech, Tourism knowledge and the International standards.
Radiant the major sponsors of the 5th edition of the Miss Tourism Beauty Peagent under the theme “LET THE PEARL SHINE” splashed out over 130 million including a BMW mini cooper grand prize.
