Last week, Louis Odongo, a third Year Medicine Student of Makerere University and also a former Speaker of the Mulago Paramedical Schools succumbed to ulcers. Ulcers is a very serious condition that many people take for granted. Today we bring you 5 hacks on how to keep your ulcers under control;

Take in less acids

One of the best ways to keep your ulcers in check is to reduce the amount of acids you take into your stomach. Most ulcers treatment is to reduce the amount of acids in the stomach so it would be better if you did it yourself. Avoid taking foods or any substances that have acid; orange juices, lemons, soda or any acid preserved food.

Quit alcohol and smoking

Very many people don’t know the essence of quitting alcohol and smoking especially if they are suffering from ulcers, it’s absurd. Smoking and drinking alcohol damage the lining of your digestive tract and this worsens the case of ulcers.

Avoid spicy foods if they cause heartburn

Too many spices in foods are a danger to you especially when you have ulcers hence the need to avoid spicy foods or to eat minimal spicy foods.

Watch what you eat

There is a possibility that what you eat might be making you ulcer case get worse; although this isn’t true for everyone. Certain foods and drinks may be more likely to make your pain worse. They include both regular and decaffeinated coffee, tea, chocolate, meat extracts, alcohol, black pepper, chili powder, mustard seed and nutmeg. Keep your diet balanced and try eating small, frequent meals when you’re having pain.

Don’t get yourself hungry

For a person suffering from ulcers, the last thing you want to add to your plate is hunger. Try as much as possible to keep a full stomach, don’t get yourself hungry. Have your meals on time and make it a ‘must’ to never miss a meal even when very busy. Breakfast is as important as lunch and dinner, don’t miss any.

With the above hacks, we believe that you shall be able to keep your ulcers in check, thus preventing you from feeling pain or even saving you from death.

Rest In Peace Louis Odong.
