As of January 2024, Makerere University maintains its prestigious position as the best university in Uganda, according to the latest edition of Webometrics. This renowned institution, the oldest public university in the country, continues to lead the way in higher education.
Following closely behind is Kampala International University (KIU), a prominent private institution of higher learning. In the third spot is Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), recognized for its contributions to scientific education and research.
Kyambogo University secures the fourth position, demonstrating its commitment to providing quality education. Gulu University follows closely behind, further enriching Uganda’s academic landscape.
In the sixth spot, we have Busitema University, known for its focus on agriculture, technology, and innovation. Kabale University takes the seventh position, contributing significantly to the advancement of education in the region.
Uganda Martyrs University earns the eighth spot, recognized for its dedication to academic excellence and holistic education. The ninth position is held by the Islamic University in Uganda, reflecting its commitment to providing a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
Ndejje University rounds out the top ten, showcasing its achievements in academic growth and development.
Further down the ranking, we find Mountains of the Moon University in the 11th position, demonstrating its dedication to research and innovation. Makerere University Business School (MUBS) follows closely behind in the 12th spot, contributing to Uganda’s business education landscape.
Bishop Stuart University secures the 13th position, known for its focus on community development and research initiatives. Uganda Christian University (UCU) closes out the top 14, recognized for its holistic approach to education and commitment to producing well-rounded graduates.
Webometrics, the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions globally, provides valuable insights into the performance of universities based on their web presence and impact. Since 2004, this independent and objective exercise by the Cybermetrics Lab (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC) has been a reliable source of information for students, educators, and researchers worldwide.
