Contrary to common belief that Ugandan President is unpopular among the urban youths, Makerere University student, Giftson Kamara, is proving Pearl of Africa wrong. Kamara could not hide his joy after shaking hands with the Fountain of Honour, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni- something he says has longed for all his life.
This happened Thursday afternoon when Museveni was presiding over the installation of MAK’s new vice chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe. The elated Kamara took to his social media page to let his friends know of his most current coveted ‘achievement.’
“I experienced the most surreal moment of life today,” Kamara noted before adding; “I met and shook hands with the President of the Republic of Uganda, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the installation ceremony of the new Vice Chancellor for Makerere University.
One thing I learnt about this gentle giant is that he’s a great support personality for education. He doesn’t give speeches. He teaches.
I took this picture to commemorate this day.”

Harsh comments
Kamara was, however, bombarded with harsh comments from his friends who, we assume, aren’t in support of the NRM government. A one Guma Gregory said; “There’s nothing to remind you of the handshake. Absolutely irrelevant. When you are gone, we cant look at it and say; oh he even shook the hands of the president! In any case you shd have retracted your arm for he is not worthy of an innocent handshake that yours could be.”
Edward Kaggwa also had something to say. “Kamara kamara Kamara Giftson.. How many times did I call your name??? Anyway I will seize to comment on this but to only say one thing… Am disappointed honestly….. Is that the biggest achievement u had to tell us about???? Anyway all the best in your endeavors..”
