Makerere Law School, through the Makerere Law Society Cabinet headed by Mr. Grace Waiswa Nsaawa, lodged a petition to the Director of the Law Development Centre (LDC) to schedule another intake for the finalists at Makerere University.
This petition comes at a time when the deadline for application to LDC is slated for 10th September, 2021. It should be noted that the finalists at Makerere University have a whole semester uncovered and are yet to resume classes online.
In the petition, it is contended that Makerere University like many academic institutions globally, has been brought to her knees by the corona pandemic. Furthermore, that with no fault on their part, the finalists at the University have been unable to finalize their studies and accordingly, are unable to have their names and credentials submitted to LDC before the deadline.
The petition further notes that the resumption of studies for finalists is dependent on recommendation from the University Council and that, this is yet to be done. To that end, that it is beyond doubt that the law finalists at the University are at the verge of losing a whole year, if LDC maintains its imminent deadline for the intake of the Academic year 2021/2022.
Ultimately, the petition implores LDC to revisit its resolution to have one intake for the academic year 2021/2022, and schedule a special intake for the Law Finalists at Makerere University whose career would otherwise suffer a major setback, if no such intervention were made.
