The 86th Makerere Students’ Guild Leadership has through its Off-campus Affairs Ministry, launched an online student help desk. According to Hon. Fortunate Ashabire, the Guild Minister for Off-campus Affairs, this initiative is aimed at achieving inclusive decision making and representation at the Hill.
Additionally, this initiative is geared towards giving the entire student fraternity a platform to share their opinions, information and also receive assistance from their leaders. This in turn, is hoped to keep students connected, considering they are away from the University premises, the fact that many university activities are still ongoing notwithstanding.
In a detailed explanatory video released by the Guild Leadership, Hon. Fortunate Ashabire further intimated to the general student fraternity that this initiative was inspired by the leadership’s desire to concretize the cohesive ties between the students and the Guild Leadership on the one hand, and the University Management on the other.
Furthermore, according to the Guild Minister, all the student needs to do to access the student help desk, is type ‘www.mak.student.com’ in their search engine and fill in their student credentials. That tentatively, the help desk can be accessed directly using Google by downloading the app through https://offcampusministry.twak.help/article/chats.
The Guild Off-campus minister ultimately noted that it is at a time like this that the voice of the ordinary student must be heard. She conclusively, re-echoed the commitment of the 86th Students Guild Leadership to the student cause and welfare at the Hill and that this initiative once embraced by the Student Fraternity, will go a long way in the realization of that aspiration.
It should be reckoned that this move comes after the University Management had revoked its earlier resolution to hold examinations and ancillary assessments virtually. This retraction had notably, birthed significant disgruntlement across the student fraternity. This was largely because the revocation in question effectively diminished any hope of completion of the 2020/2021 academic year in the near future, and yet many other universities across the country are proceeding, leaving the Ivory Tower at the trails.
