Makerere University administration has today confirmed the suspension of eight (8) students on grounds of engaging in violent activities contrary to the institution’s regulations.
According to the university website, during a meeting held on 7th March 2022, the University Management received a report from the Dean of Students on the violent clashes between Mitchell and University Hall residents, which occurred around 3:00 am on Sunday 6th March 2022.
Management noted that several Mitchell and University Hall residents staged illegal roadblocks in the wee hours of the night. They broke over 150 windowpanes across 91 windows at both Mitchell and University Halls. Further assessments are ongoing to determine other University properties destroyed in the altercation.
On 8th March, 2022, the Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Henry Alinaitwe summoned the students leadership of Mitchel Hall to explain the actual details of the clash with University Hall students.
Resultantly, management has taken matters into its own hands and taken a stand on the already isolated participants.
“Eight (8) students were identified as participants in these violent clashes, which contravene the Makerere University Students Regulations. The students whose letters appear below have been suspended with immediate effect until further notice, and subject to the outcome of the investigations,” a university statement reads.
