The 86th Makerere University Students’ Guild Leadership, through its Chief Editor’s docket, recently released its first edition of the ‘MAKEREREAN’. According to the Makerere Guild Constitution, the Guild Minister of Information has the mandate, in conjunction with the University Administration to arrange for the editing and publishing of the Makererean Newspaper.
The Makererean is managed by the Makererean Editorial Board, headed by the Chief Editor and this board plays the role of an oversight body in charge of the administration of the Makererean Newspaper. This Editorial Board is in turn accountable to the Guild Representative Council (GRC), through the Guild Minister of Information.
The publication of this particular edition comes after a call had been made by the Guild Chief Editor many months ago, for Makerere University Students to contribute and submit articles. These articles were subsequently subjected to a thorough and rigorous appraisal process by the Makererean Editorial Board. Ultimately, the most befitting of them all were published.
On over 38 pages, the Makererean Newspaper narrates how Mrs. Winifred Namuwonge Kabumbuli, a former Mary Stuart Warden made it to the top as Dean of Students, Lumumba Hall’s history as it celebrates its golden jubilee this year, what the Makerere Main Building fire cost the University, why the proposed e-learning interface should be embraced, access to the MAK e-Library services using the ‘My Loft App’ and Oroma Peace’s story as a Makererean at the Paralympics, among others.
