A huge section of Makerere GRCs from the 86th house have petitioned the university administration seeking an immediate response following the realization that the Guild Speaker Kamukama Godfrey Frank is choking on retakes.
The GRCs strain that their speaker is another ‘Ssegirinya’ in the making with a shameful academic record that does not befit the position of Guild Speaker as per the regulations which prohibit retakers.
These are the same regulations for which former Guild President hopeful Junith Nalukwago was kicked out of the race.
Some argue that the Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe could be deliberately favouring Kamukama since he was a staunch ally to the administration having appended his signature to the document that endorsed the cumulative tuition policy.
“The electoral regulations which were passed clearly hindered retakers from participating in Guild leadership. Why does the administration come up with laws that disfavour some candidates yet the same administration allows people like Kamukama to be leaders?,” complained one GRC.
“We had an unprecedented number of Guild aspirants. The fewest on the ballot simply because some were retakers. Why didn’t the same laws work on Kamukama?,” the GRC adds.
Reliable sources say that the Personal Assistant to Nawangwe, a one Gordon Murangira is behind the maintenance of Kamukama in students leadership as he allegedly intends to use him to fulfil their dream of having an NRM guild president in the next polls.
Murangira well knows that if Kamukama appoints the Electoral Commission through the interim government, then it can be a remarkable step taken towards realizing their ultimate goal of installing an NRM guild.
