The 86th Makerere University Students’ Guild Leadership, through its Ministry of Culture, held a cultural symposium recently. This symposium was organized under the theme, ‘The Role of the Youth in Promoting Culture’.
The event was held virtually and it attracted a number of attendees from Makerere University and students from other universities and tertiary institutions. The Panelists at the event included Mr. Charles Mwaguhya, the Minister for Information (Tooro Kingdom), Mr. Obed Kwokuboth, a renowned Activist for Student welfare and ‘Kelele’ icon. Kelele is an association of poets at Makerere University.
The Keynote Address was given by Dr. Patrick Bitature. Dr. Patrick Bitature is a businessman and entrepreneur and he is believed to be the second wealthiest Ugandan after Sudhir Ruparelia. He is the Chairman of Simba Group of Companies, an East African conglomerate, with interests in telecommunication, energy production, mining, media, real estate, travel, and leisure. He is also the owner of Protea Hotels East Africa. His keynote address, backed by his vast experience and knowledge, undoubtedly added glam to the event.
The event was hosted by Hon. Okwamungu Jasper Dangote, who doubles as the Guild Representative Councilor (GRC) of the School of Economics and the Guild Minister for Culture. He was assisted by Hon. Kayanja Ben Joseph, the GRC from Kabanyolo.
In a brief interview with Campus Bee, the honourable Minister for Culture intimated that the event had been colorful and a success and that the objective for the organisation had indeed, been achieved.
