The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) at Makerere University, Prof Umar Kakumba, confirmed in a statement how the intended mode of examination (real-time online (live) quiz-based examination) needed further polishing, thus a postponement of the exams till at least 20th September.
Other Semester One examinations (not needing real-time quizzing) for 1 Year and continuing students have commenced today, 13th September till 30 September 2021. The examinations are to be conducted following the Alternative Assessment Modalities as approved by the University Senate and Council since the education institutions were prohibited from physical classes.
However, the ploy to test learners remotely hit a snag for some students after the Directorate for ICT Support ( DICTS) failed to iron out the faults in MUELE (Makerere University E-Learning Environment), a system used to teach and assess the students, prompting the University management to raise a red flag hence postponing the exams to next week on 20th.
“The purpose of this communication is to halt the administering of real-time online (live) quiz-based examination for one week (13 to 19 September 2021) so as to give DICTS time to sort out all pending failure points that are making MUELE unable to support large students numbers for real-time (live) examinations. The halted examinations will be administered in the week of 20 to 30 September 2021,” a statement read.
