Recently, government-sponsored students at the Ankole based Mbarara university of science and technology (MUST) through their Guild president appealed to the university administration to release their living out allowances. Ms. Iculet Arikosi penned down a letter to the University Secretary (US) showing reasons as to why government students need to get their allowances.
In a letter dated 3rd August 2021, the University Secretary Melchoir Byaruhanga said that the university didn’t receive enough money to run the university activities and also cater for government-sponsored students in this quarter.
‘’We received reduced funding from the government for the period July to September 2021. The money received did not include living out allowance for students. However, we are working out an appeal to the ministry of finance over the matter. We shall update as soon as we receive a response,” the Administrator responded.
Here’s the detailed memo;
MUST resumed with online studies in late June, several students have raised out numerous complaints such as poor network connectivity, data costs. A section of government-sponsored students thought that their living out allowances would assist them but it seems they have to wait longer.
