The Public Relations Association of Uganda’s professional development and networking event famously known as the PRAU Nite is back again. The first event of 2017 is set to take place at D’Mellos Resto and Bar in Nakasero on Friday March 31st from 6pm to 9pm.
The Managing Editor of Chimp Reports, Mr. Giles Muhame, will deliver a key note presentation “BREAKING THE STORY & PICKING UP THE PIECES” which is centered around how public and private organizations should handle their public relations in light of new age technology where it is more than impossible to nip a PR crisis once it has imploded.
This follows the widely talked about ‘Golden Presidential Handshake’ saga unearthed by Giles Muhame which revealed a scandal dating back to 2015 when the team of about 42 government officials that successfully represented Uganda in the Capital Gains Tax Case against Heritage Oil and Gas were paid approximately $1.5 million that was owed to the National Treasury.
The story shocked Ugandans at large who shared their views on social media and on radio talk shows, asking why well-paid civil servants had to be rewarded for doing their job. The story threw URA into a deep PR crisis and the PR practitioners are set to learn from the seasoned online journalist how organizations should handle such sensitive stories before they become public fodder.
After the key note presentation there will be a roundtable discussion that will feature Christine Alupo, the Director Communications at the Bank of Uganda (BOU), Samuel Apedel, current Public Relations Manager at National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) and Bernard Tabaire, Director of Programmes, ACME (African Center for Media Excellence). They will respond to the key note presentation and share their insights on PR crisis management. The three are experienced PR and communications professionals and combined carry over thirty years of active PR management. Peter Odeke, Senior Protocol Officer – Parliament of Uganda – and also PRAU Vice President, will be the event MC and moderator.
PR professionals from Government, Corporate Organizations, NGO’s and the Media are expected to attend. The event is sponsored by Radio One and D’Mellos Resto and Bar.
