A wise man once said “food is all the love you need” and this is what prompted me to embark on a survey and search for what, in my opinion, stand as the top food joints around Uganda Christian University, Mukono. This survey was based on five major attributes; affordability, quality and quantity of food, closeness to the university or hostels, quality of service and popularity. Since there are new students expected to flock the campus, I thought this article may be helpful.
Cafe Bonanza
Let me tell you an interesting secret about this place, this is the closest to Café Javas in the entire district. One could arguably say this is the best dinning spot around the Christian University. Café Bonanza has built a strong reputation around their luscious ice cream and pizza offers that have attracted a steady inflow of clients who can’t seem to get over it. Describing their service as “excellent” is an understatement as the waiters, waitresses and management will always help you realise your money’s worth. Be sure to also find numerous birthday parties at this joint due to its beautiful scenery worth capturing in every selfie. About the prices, definitely this is Mukono and no one is willing to spend exorbitant prices for anything and it’s upon this that their prices can be said to be moderate with meals ranging from Shs 10,000 – 30,000.
Euniz Kitchen
The tale about this place won’t be based on anyone’s testimony but mine. I had previously heard a lot about the fancy dishes at this one joint called Euniz Kitchen next to Bishop Stage and felt this would be the best chance for me to confirm this. So, on one cold evening, I checked into this spot and a well detailed menu was presented to me. I’m no Muslim, so I ordered for “Fries and honey-glazed pork”. Preparation took quite some time but I can confirm that the long wait was worth it when I finally tasted the pork! I swear a rich me would have ordered for more of the same but unfortunately, those were my last cents. It was so delicious and yet affordable. Price ranges Shs 9,500 – 25,000.
Tina’s Restaurant
If you are a lover of local food but haven’t been to Tina’s restaurant just opposite UCU’s Wandegeya gate, then you should have no say on food. It’s always hard to understand how their chefs finely blend in spices without making the food lose its local sense or status. Meanwhile, affordability is their middle name as one can have “all foods” and beef at only Shs 4,000 so just imagine how much the other sauces are. It is also popular for attracting the University’s hottest humans.
Bobic’s Restaurant
In life, we must learn to always give credit where it’s due. This restaurant must be credited for having the best customer care around U.C.U as an addition to their fine mouth-watering snacks and fast food. It’s rare for one to step into this place and not vow to come back some time. They make the quickest food deliveries around Mukono and perhaps this explains their financial success of their business.
District 11
In Uganda, we don’t wear the Rolex, we eat it. If you have eaten a Rolex from Ugaroll before then you definitely won’t wonder why District 11 is on this list. This is one of the few places in Mukono that offers both Chicken and beef wraps (what most of us refer to as Rolexes). Meanwhile these go for only 4,000 and 5,000shs. respectively and those have tasted them say they are worth more money than that.
