The Uganda Press Photo Award invites all Ugandan photojournalists and photographers to participate in the 5th annual photo contest. The photographers are invited to submit their best images to 7 categories: News, Daily Life, Creative, Portrait, Sports, Nature & Story. Submissions must be entered online on the UPPA website: http://ugandapressphoto.org; where participants will also find the guidelines and Terms & Conditions. The deadline for submissions is 1st September 2016, 12:00 am (midnight) EAT.
The competition will be judged by a panel of international jurors including photographers, photo editors and curators working in the region and internationally. The overall winner will receive the grand prize of a CANON EOS 7D MARK II DSLR camera sponsored by Canon. The winners will be announced during a prize-giving ceremony at the end of October 2016, followed by a month long exhibition of the winning images.
The Uganda Press Photo Award is a photography competition and also a platform for exchanging thoughts and ideas about photography as a medium, through a series of workshops, talks, portfolio reviews and film screenings. The award’s initial aim was to raise the bar for professional photojournalism in Uganda, but throughout the years it has widened its scope to promoting photography and visual literacy in general. In addition it aims to make photography more visible to the wider Ugandan public.
The UPPA 2016 competition is organised with the support of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, the Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda, Canon, Feature Story News and Total.
