Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) have been crowned champions of the 2024/2025 University Football League.
This, after delivering a masterclass performance in yesterday’s final, defeating St. Lawrence University 3-0 at Wankulukuku Stadium.
The Saints from Nkozi dominated the highly anticipated rematch of the 2022 final with goals from Emayo Calvin Peter (35′), Sseruwunge Crispus (41′), and Obedgiu Ronald (55′) to secure their third UFL title.
“This victory represents years of commitment to player development and tactical discipline,” said UMU head coach Robert Ssekweyama after the match.
“To finish the entire season unbeaten speaks volumes about the character and quality of these young men.”
The victory puts UMU in exclusive company alongside MUBS and Kampala University as the only institutions to have claimed the prestigious trophy three times.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that UMU completed the 2024-25 campaign without a single defeat, establishing themselves as the dominant force in Ugandan university football.
Any hopes of a St. Lawrence comeback were extinguished ten minutes into the second half when Obedgiu Ronald added a third goal, converting a swift counter-attack to seal the victory and trigger celebrations among the UMU supporters.
With the 2024/2025 season now complete, attention will soon turn to the next campaign, with UMU established as the team to beat in what continues to be one of Uganda’s most competitive and rapidly developing football competitions.
Congratulations UMU!
