Kyambogo University Year three students of Social Work and Social Administration (SWASWA) have today left the entire university in utter shock after they refused to do an examination paper “Theory and Practice of Child Protection” because their fellows had been chased out of the room over incomplete tuition issues.
One of the students from this group, who preferred anonymity, narrated that they had just started writing the examination when the University Assurance Board which usually verifies the student examination permits to prove that they are eligible candidates for the paper came in to do their job.
This board uses gadgets to scan the permits to reflect the students’ portal information. The head of department pleaded with the Bursar to just let the victims with tuition balances sit for the examination but the Bursar kept a deaf ear.
Considering the fact that many students were affected, angry examination invigilators left the bursar to supervise the examination himself.
It was at this moment when all the students were signaled to each other, stood up and matched out of the examination room CTF 106 Auditorium, leaving the Bursar in a bewilderment.
In unshaken solidarity, the students noisily walked to the Administration block screaming “Weee Weee” in protest of what they considered unfair examination policy.
This was around 10:30 am on Thursday 22nd September 2022.
It is still unknown what awaits these students as one can hardly tell if they will be given another examination paper of the same course unit.
It’s the first time such a kind of situation transpired in Kyambogo University and a number of students are quite proud of the solidarity that was shown.
