FRESHERS GUIDE! Top UCU Rules You Should Not Go Against

2016 was a record year for Uganda Christian Univerity (UCU), in just a span of 2 semesters, up to 4 students were dismissed from the university. Two law students expelled for demonstrating in the January semester and the other suspended for engaging in electoral malpractice in the September semester of the same year.

The reasons these students were sent away from UCU will top this list of the top UCU rules you should never go against. These like draw the maximum penalty- expulsion in the university context.

The Demonstration Policy
A provision in the university code of conduct 2014 booklet lays down the necessary steps a student intending to demonstrate should take. First it wants that you notify the Vice Chancellor in writing at least a day before the demonstration so consent may be given and a police escort given to you. Law students, Yasin Ssentumbwe and Simon Ssemuwemba were expelled at the start of 2016 because the university says they did not follow these steps.

Election Malpractice
In the same year, late 2016, one student known by his colleagues as Bob was accused of engaging in electoral malpractice. Then he was the chair electoral commission who was accused of soliciting funds from the aspirants and also sexually assaulting some of them, so the story was. Evidence was presented and the university DC indefinitely suspended Bob and another colleague of his.

Rule against sexual immorality
The university strongly condemns sex before marriage and any culprit will face disciplinary action. A couple of students in 2013 only survived by God’s grace if they were believers. 3 students made a sex tape, one story that got the university in the media for a very long time, and her reputation nearly tarnished.  The university code of conduct makes an offence for one to get pregnant while on campus.

Dress Code Policy
One of the reasons you will hear people call UCU all sorts of names is because of the dress code standard. Out there, they called it a secondary school. To assure you, expose cleavage, wear skirts/dresses that are above the knees, jeggings. These and many will not get you thrown out of university gates. The gate men are pretty sensitive to this dress code. If you really want to slay, be a resident in the university halls,  because once you are in, it is usually difficult to implement this policy.

There is curfew if you sleep in University Halls.
This does not end home alone. You will leave the gates of the university and you will never get back if it is passed midnight. The gate men even have a tendency of leaving their stations when it clocks mid night. So you will knock whole night and still get no response. Not until it clocks 6am when the university gates are officially opened. Break this rule if you are comfortable sleeping outside.

Academic offences.
The university is very strict when it comes to academic malpractice. Cheating in an exam, procuring an impersonator and other practices are serious offences that can get one expelled.

This is only a caution to the freshers entering into UCU for their further education. Be one high alert not to caught on the wrong side of the law.
