Lira University has officially released the list of government-sponsored students for the 2024/2025 academic year, with a significant portion of the slots allocated to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programs.
The comprehensive admission list, endorsed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Senate Committee, features students enrolled in a variety of science and arts courses from across Uganda.
Prof. Ogwal Okeng emphasized that the admissions process was conducted centrally by the Public Universities Joint Admissions Committee (PUJAC) through the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
“It is completely a national merit admission, students compete nationally for Government sponsorships in Public Universities as per their A’ Level results,” he explained, underscoring the competitive nature of the selection process.
In addition to the students admitted through the national merit system, other groups still to be admitted include those sponsored by the government through the Diploma Scheme and District Quota system.
The university will also admit a significant number of privately sponsored students, selected by the University Admissions Board.
