The five-day Makerere University 73rd Graduation commenced on Monday February 13 and will close on Friday, February 17.
A total of 13221 students will be awarded with respective academic achievements from different Colleges and Schools at the great hill.
102 graduands will graduate with PhDs, 1,378 with Masters degrees, 11,598 with Bachelor’s degrees and 143 with undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas.
Wednesday February 15 witnessed graduands from the College of Business and Management Sciences (COBAMS), College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS) and College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-Security (COVAB) occupy seats in the Freedom Square.
The conferment of degrees was presided over by the Chancellor Prof Ezra Suruma, upon the request of the Vice Chancellor .
“Your graduation today is a testimony that in the face of adversity, poverty, deprivation, doubt and danger, you found the determination to hold on and to rise after the fall. Today you are counted among the heroes and survivors of many intellectual battles,” Prof Ezra Suruma noted as he passed out the graduands.
Regarding transcripts, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, during his speech, reminded graduands to check with the university in a month’s time.
University management had previously pledged to issue out transcripts instantly but due to logistical mishaps, a delay was inevitable.
“It is always our intention to issue transcripts to our graduands before or immediately after graduation. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen challenges and the important of blanks for transcripts, we apologize that we are unable to issue the transcripts immediately after this graduation. However, we are making every effort to issue the transcripts after one month,” Prof Nawangwe said.
Makerere University is adopting more measures to reduce the transcripts backlog including a shortened clearance process to only two offices.
