Makerere University 75th Graduation ceremony has been the word on the street for this week, if not the entire month, thanks to the outstanding revelations. One of them being Mr. Alado Lawrence’s story.
Alado Lawrence has etched his name into Makerere University’s history books by achieving a first-class degree in Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with a CGPA of 4.56, becoming only the 15th student to attain this prestigious distinction since the School of Law’s establishment in 1968.
One can only imagine how demanding it is to complete a Law degree in record time, let alone score a first class – wow.
His achievement came during the opening day of Makerere University’s 75th graduation ceremony on January 13th, where the School of Law graduated alongside three other colleges.
This rare accomplishment in legal education adds to a week of exceptional academic performances at Makerere’s diamond jubilee graduation.
The ceremony has already witnessed remarkable achievements, including Abdul Latif Umar Bagoole from MUBS setting the overall highest CGPA of 4.97 in Bachelor of Leisure and Hospitality Management, and Mubiru Enock Joel’s outstanding 4.91 CGPA in Sciences.
The five-day celebration kicked off with graduates from the College of Education and External Studies (CEES), College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS), College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-Security (CoVAB), and the School of Law (SoL) on Monday.
The subsequent days have featured various colleges, with MUBS taking center stage on Wednesday and Thursday with its diverse programs ranging from doctoral studies to undergraduate degrees.
Among the 13,662 total graduates, approximately 491 students are receiving first-class honors, representing about 4.4% of the 11,455 undergraduate degrees being awarded.
However, in the School of Law’s 56-year history, first-class degrees have been exceptionally rare, averaging one every 3.7 years.
