According to statistics from National Planning Authority released in 2018, over 700,000 graduates join the job market every year regardless of qualification but only 90,000 get something to do.
This decodes that 87% of people are ready to work but can’t find a job. Many are left unemployed for periods of 5 years or more while others decide to venture into other projects.
After realizing the need, two concerned undergraduate students at Cavendish University Uganda have come up with a solution of an employment hub which is intended to reduce on the hiking unemployment rates in the country particularly among the youth. The students are Collins Mbulakyalo and Natasha Katondwaki pursuing bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
The two led a team of seven to come up with Waape Platform where employers are connected with job seekers. With the Waape Platform, an algorithm has been developed that can successfully and objectively match job seekers to employers providing working opportunities through the platform.
Their solution focuses on connecting people to opportunities not based on their transcripts or experience but based on other dynamics like learning ability, communication, accountability and commitment amongst others.
