Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) Associate Professor Patrick Ogwang has won the distinguished Mediworld Pharma Africa Award.
Renowned for developing the groundbreaking Covidex herbal medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic, the professor was recognized for his outstanding contribution to providing quality medicinal supplies for human health across Africa.
The announcement was shared by MUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika.
“Your tireless efforts, innovation, and commitment to excellence have earned you this well-deserved honor,” stated Prof. Byakika-Kibwika in her congratulatory message.
The recognition adds to Prof. Ogwang’s repertoire of continued impact in pharmaceutical innovation in Africa.
Prof. Ogwang shot to prominence in 2021 when he developed Covidex, a herbal remedy that offered hope during the devastating COVID-19 pandemic.
The drug, which received approval from the National Drug Authority (NDA), became widely used across Uganda and neighboring countries as a supportive treatment for COVID-19 symptoms.
