Every year, Makerere university hall residents celebrate their diverse hall cultures in the annual week-long culture week. This year between 24th and 30th, all halls with exception of Dag will engage in various activities that profile their hall cultures.
Mitchell Rats and Complex crocs (Mitchellx) Mitchell is famed for hosting the yearly bazaar.
The Mitchell rats refer to their hall as the “capital city.” A rat statue donning a red gown stands tall, its balls markedly emphasised. The Mitchell rats have a solidarity with the Complex crocs, Complex is an all girls hall. The two halls alternate in hosting events.
Lumumba elephants and Mary Stuart/ Box (Lumbox) Lumumba is no doubt the most infamous hall, famed for its notoriety. Their anthem is a vulgarised version of the Luganda anthem. The anthem commends their statue Gongom as having the right to screw all females.
It further calls upon Lumumbists to “help Gongom” in his screwing escapades. Lumumba is the death-bed of thieves and the flower bed of most strikes, the boys are ruthless, roguish, brutal and downright crazy. Their women are the equally vulgar Boxers; the ladies of Mary Stuart, it’s named Box because of its shape.
Lumbox events are marred by vulgarity, alcoholism, sex and violence.
Nsibirwa and Nkrumah (Northcourt)
This is undoubtedly the only gay solidarity, these two male halls are notorious mainly for the naked mile, raiding other hall parties, hosting bedbuds in quantities as much as Masaka grasshoppers. The boys are rowdy and horny and hungry. When they raid parties, they only leave when beer kegs are empty. Vagabonds those. Livingstone and Africa (Afrostone) This is undoubtedly the most sane solidarity. The Africa ladies and Livingstone gentlemen are detached from the madding crowds of Makerere university. Their events are usually where sanity prevails.
The events include; a masquerade mask party, tree and candle lighting, movie night, porridge night, fashion, design and talent night which includes a bikini night. The week-long crazy period is littered with lots of cheap liquor, nyama choma, ice cream et al. It ends with a finalists dinner on Saturday. On Sunday evening, the Afrostone community lit up their tree, provided cocktail juice provided in jerrycans. In addition to lighting candles.
