This may seem condescending to some but what can I say, I do love my University. In life, you give credit where it’s due; Makerere University is in arguably one of the best universities in Africa. When it comes to Uganda, it effortlessly puts all the other universities to shame. Backing up my praises is no hustle because MUK is all talk -and game.
The university is ranked third in the top 15 institutions in Africa, and best in East and central Africa for having impeccable research. This research being cited by academics worldwide.
Have you seen the notable alumni? The University has practically groomed the East African region to what it is now. Presidents like Milton Obote, Julius Nyerere, Benjamin Mkapa, Mwai Kibaki and Joseph Kabila have studied at the Ivory tower. Not to mention several Ugandan politicians who studied there as well. This alumni has left a good omen, that can rub off if you know where to look.
The lecturers aren’t in the business of spoon feeding students. Plus they never hound students to attend lectures. This helps students grow into their own. If you get the opportunity to study at Makerere and never exploit this opportunity, the joke is on you.
Another point to highlight on is the tuition. For starters it isn’t absurd. The rates let everyone get the chance to pursue a degree; something I can’t say for some universities. It may be a government based University but come on, you know our government. The staff serves more than they are being paid. It’s practically a University for the people. A chattered University not a licensed one.
Sadly, its reputation has been tainted over the years, and its name dragged through the mad but even the great crumble.
However, they always find ways to get back up. Fact is Makerere is a household name world over. Isn’t that reason enough to love it? Don’t answer that, clearly a rhetorical question. Keep in mind it isn’t bragging if it’s true.
