Too many, campus is a bed of sponge, to some, a rock so hard it could break the enamel with just a simple feel. But however, it’s up to every individual to decide whether they are to hold their fate and keep it still in their hands or whether they will catch it and could it into something appealing.
An encounter with Badru Bunkeddeko a third year student of civil engineering at Kyambogo University rekindles the spirit of grabbing at every opportunity life throws at you. Badru is one of those guys that toiled in their high school days and read their books thus their efforts paid off well because he was offered a slot on Government sponsorship
Being a government student did not subject him to being a dependent of his parents and neither a parasite to the semester allowance accorded to Government students. But rather, he devised means that have enabled him generate an income in order to supplement his budget.
At first he explains that his inspiration was to do something that would equip him with the working experience in line with his profession that would enable him build his bright future career.
With that determination and enthusiasm, he landed his first job at Home Finishers and construction company limited located along Muteesa 1 road in Katwe on MW building opposite BMK building. He started small by helping out in the hardware shop but then with time he got nurtured into the active engineering world. This will be his third year as an employee at this company and currently he holds the position of company engineer.
So far, Badru explains that he has not got any major problems at his work place and his work is majorly by contract. He gets 30,000 Ugandan shilling-allowance on a daily basis plus a bonus at the end of each contract. Badru says his never believed life to come on a silver plate but rather you can mine the silver and make the plate.
