I was sitting in my favorite spot when I noticed a car passing, red, short and I suppose a volskwagen, it was very old and required a great deal of skill to keep on the road. The guy driving this piece of junk was Josh my classmate and on the co drivers was his new catch. He was bare chested and was wearing a funny baseball hat. This was another campus swaggering session.
Josh dated a new girl almost every week and this kept me wondering whether these girls didn’t notice. Any way none of this ever concerned me much, for I didn’t like dating.
I was impatient in those days, busy with work and unrealised plans and prone to see other people as unnecessary destructions. It wasn’t that I didn’t appreciate company.I enjoyed drinking, writing and watching European football with my classmates. I’d also usually stop at Mamzos to have a drink or two, when the weather was good on Saturdays, I might go to the pitch and make several rounds.
Campus comes with a lot of challenges and needs. It is where we experiment with new behaviours and enjoy freedom that sometimes takes our lives,it is where we come to realise that we are from poor families;it is simply hard to sail smoothly thought campus. You are always under pressure to look like everyone else and impress everyone you see.And most relationships are founded on awkwardness more than most campusers realise. When a typical campuser looks around at his colleagues he sees nothing but coolness and confidence, people who fit in better than they do.They are preoccupied not with academics but rather ,”other things”(sex) and everything in between.
The memory of campus rejection and brokeness is painful even for generations of rich and famous. But there is no correlation between campus and later archievement as an adult. What works in the campus environment is not what works in the real world. One can be poor, looked at as clumsy but becomes someone successful in future.
A study shows that it is those on the second tier, those that group just below the top,who are most likely to to succeed in life.
