Most people assume that fashion is all about having the latest clothes and gadgets, as much as there is some truth in it, the real essence of fashion is looking nice and feeling comfortable in one’s own skin.
Fashion is about creativity and if you can manage to pull off a weird look and make it seem eye catching, then you’re a step ahead. Fact is not everyone can afford to look like the models we always see on the runway, or even afford most of what they showcase, I’ll say this once, some things are just meant for the run-way, nowhere else. So quit looking miserable and thinking you can’t look as amazing and fashionable as those celebrities and so on.
When I was told to write something about fashion, especially what’s trending among university students, I sat down for close to 4 hours trying to come up with the best trends but then I realized that unlike the schools in the US or Europe, Ugandans never really go with what’s trending, reason why? well…that shit is not always that affordable but that there are other ways of being on point just from downtown.
Own at least one cross bag, this is mostly for the girls, instead of burdening yourself with that big heavy handbag that makes you appear as though you spend all your days robbing people, just a simple cross bag with your books can do. And it also makes you look younger (hihi).
Shades. Uganda is well known to be one of those countries with hot weather, so grab yourself some shades, they come in handy and very cheap btw, no kidding. Pull of that confused look with the shades and no one will dare say you don’t know fashion.
Smartphone. I should have talked about this first, in this era, a smartphone is a need, no longer a want, most of you can’t afford laptops and lecturers are always burdening you with these hard unknown course works that only Google can solve, that’s not all, research, saving, typing can all be done at once, saving time, trust me, even if you own just one pair of pants, no one will notice, only the phone will matter (wink).
Match cloths. Endeavor to always dress not only nicely but smartly, am not going to tell you how to exactly dress, as I said, if you want to look fashionable in a simple and plain way, you’ve gat to be creative, match that sexy black top with a pair of green or blue pants.
Keep up with what’s trending, fashion is seasonal, if you’re the kind that always wants to look like Beyonce or Michelle Obama then I admit it, you’ve gat a lot of work to do and if you’re the simple type, be in line. Fashion waits for no one but at least own those three things I pointed out above.
You’ll be just fine if you own the above while on campus.
