In competitive show over the weekend, the Bakonzo Students’ Association of Ndejje University emerged winners of the 2020 Cultural Gala after they scored the highest points topping the list of the other cultural associations.
Last year, the Bakonzo snatched the crown for the first time from the all time winners the Baganda Nkobazambogo. The Bakonzo had the best in folk song and traditional plays and poems scooping total of 273 points in all as they were closely followed by the Baganda with a total of 268 points.
The Baganda under the Association of Ndejje University Nkobazambogo Students Association (NUNSTA) have been the defending champions for a long time since the gala’s inception in 2013.
This time round, 14 culture groups from different regions participated in the event with the Bugwere Students Association participating for the second time.

According to the Dean of Students, Wilfred Kato Muhumuuza, Cultural Gala is a time to appreciate and recognize traditions and different student’s diverse backgrounds.
“Cultural gala creates awareness of our different backgrounds and helps us understand the different cultures of our neighbors, in a way making us more hospitable to others from other origins,” He said.
