Bishop Stuart University guild elections were relatively unchaotic except for a few people power supporters who have been involved in chaotic fights with the supporters of other candidates, leading to a few of them getting thumped by goons.
Yesterday, after the rallies of people power candidate Solomon Atwembebire, some goons decided to land on a one Balaki Rukaro Ourato, a Business student and key publicist of team Kasara Ortha, one of the guild contestants and thumped him to a pulp. Rukaro was left wounded and bleeding from a big cut on his forehead that left him unconscious.
He was later picked up by police after a certain lady known only as Christine (Krity) found him nearly half dead lying in a pool of blood. The lady took him (Rukaro) to Pacific Clinic from where he gained consciousness after receiving treatment.
“I was hijacked by some goons of a certain camp that believes in violence, severely beaten to coma and left in the middle of the road in Kasengenge. I gained consciousness at midnight only to find myself covered in bandages,” Rukaro told our reporter from his bed.
Although Rukaro’s health is now improving, he’s still nursing severe head wounds from the stones and sticks pelted on him. According to Bwengye Deusdedit, a team leader and people power patriot who visited Rukaro at the clinic, he says such acts are very primitive and the culprits should be brought to book as soon as possible
“We condemn the violence meted on him and wish him a quick recuperation as we argue both camps of Denmark Adios and Kasasira Orthan to exercise restraint and avoid further violence. Elections should not divide us students and both candidates should take command of their supporters,” He said
BSU guild elections have been hanging in balance as several candidates are already battling court cases against the university and individual fights among supporters of contestants. The guild elections are expected to take place early next week after the Easter break.
