After what may be described as a successful tenure in office as Guild President of Kyambogo University, His Excellency Amanya German, Kyambogo’s 15th Guild President has made an official proclamation that he is worthy and qualified to extend his leadership skills to the Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA)
Amanya made this declaration early on Thursday evening, a move which was welcomed by most Kyambogo University students who would like to send one of their own to represent them at the Students’ body.
“You can’t stop an idea whose time has come. We are German Amanya for UNSA President. Strong leadership guarantees a secure future,” Denmark Adios, one of the students commented on the move.
However, some of the students who are hungry for accountability during Amanya’s tenure as Guild President have thrown negative sentiments on this declaration voicing and questioning his capability to lead. However, Amanya has responded to their concerns.
“We should concentrate on politics of positivity rather than pulling our colleagues down. I will go to UNSA and shall deliver to the expectations of the students fraternity of Uganda,” said Amanya.
The 15th Guild President of Kyambogo University faces stiff competition from Okiror Nathan from Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU).
Those vying for other positions at UNSA include Hon. Kwagala Isaac (Guild Speaker of Makerere University), H.E. Katiinti Newman (Guild President Bugema University) and Bayern (the Guild Speaker of UCU).
Voting of new UNSA representatives is scheduled for January, 2019.
UNSA is the umbrella body that unites students’ leaders at tertiary and secondary levels of education in Uganda. It was established under Section 30 of the Education Act. It replaced the National Union of Students of Uganda (NUSU) in 1998 to end supposed inequality and discrimination in the organisation. It is mandated to voice students’ concerns, ensure students’ welfare and build effective leadership among students. It is managed in accordance with the UNSA constitution. The current President of UNSA is Jothan Yamu Burubuto from Makerere University.
