The Law Development Centre (LDC) has recently announced the results of its advocate Bar Course examinations for the academic year 2022/2023, revealing a sobering statistic: out of 2,087 enrolled students, only 701 successfully passed the rigorous assessments.
This leaves a staggering 1,300 students grappling with the disappointment of failure, with 894 required to re-sit supplementary exams and 492 facing the harsh reality of a complete failure.
According to an examination results circular issued by LDC director Frank Nigel Othembi, students will access their academic results via their respective portals starting 2pm Wednesday this week.
Othembi underscored the divergent performance across LDC campuses, highlighting Mbarara’s notably higher success rates compared to Kampala and Lira. At Mbarara, 224 students passed, 286 face supplementary exams, and 120 failed. In Kampala, 398 passed, 488 will re-sit exams, and 305 failed, while Lira witnessed the least successful outcomes with only 79 passing, 120 facing supplementaries, and 67 failing.
Othembi emphasized the importance of registering for supplementary exams promptly, with testing scheduled to commence on February 24, 2024. He clarified the grading process for supplementary exams, ensuring timely processing for eligible graduates of the academic year 2022/23. Additionally, students with missed assessments due to valid reasons are advised to formally request special examinations.
For those contemplating repeating the Bar Course, Othembi encouraged applications during the current or subsequent academic years. Despite the daunting figures, there is a glimmer of celebration as LDC revealed its top 20 performers for the academic year. Notably, Agnes Aine Linda emerged as the overall best student, followed by Vivian Ashabahebwa and Swabru Mpungu, showcasing exceptional academic prowess.
Looking ahead, graduation ceremonies are set to take place at respective campuses, honoring eligible graduates on April 12 for Mbarara, April 19 for Kampala, and April 26, 2024, for Lira. As students navigate the aftermath of exam results, the LDC community remains committed to supporting their academic journey and fostering excellence in legal education.
