The 2023 Unwanted Witness Privacy Moot Competition will see law students across the country debating about privacy and personal data protection.
This year’s Unwanted Witness Moot Competition will be held under the theme “Balancing Privacy Rights and National Security: Navigating the Impact of Surveillance Laws on Individual Freedoms.”
15 Universities have been lined up to participate in this year’s Privacy Moot court competition scheduled to take place at Makerere University on September 21st and 22nd.
These include Makerere University, Bishop Stuart University, Cavendish, Gulu University, IUEA, IUIU (Female, Kampala and Main campus), Nkumba University, King Ceasor University, KIU, UCU Mukono and Kampala campus, Uganda Martyrs and Uganda Pentecostal University.
The September privacy moot competition will be the second of its kind aimed at creating awareness about the right to privacy amidst increasing risks to privacy.
The theme will explore the tension between the need for national security and the protection of individual privacy rights.
The competition will consist of several rounds of oral arguments and written submissions. The arguments will be based on a fictional case scenario, which will test participants’ legal knowledge, research skills, and advocacy abilities.
The moot competition is designed to provide a platform for participants to showcase their legal skills and knowledge of privacy law.
