While university students gear up for graduation, a smaller group saw their dreams of graduating this year hit an unexpected dead-end. They are part of a larger group destined to miss out on graduation. Unlike, the rest who might have missed out on graduation because of having not cleared with the relevant bodies, this group won’t graduate this year because of the fault of the university.
An unfortunate mistake of the university’s registrar’s office will definitely cost 9 students from the department of performing arts and film at the faculty of Music Dance and Drama after they studied a wrong course unit in their final semester.
The lot instead of studying audio production studied and sat for video production exams. “We registered, studied and sat for video production exams which we duly passed. We were shocked when we found our names missing off the graduation list. The University dropped the bombshell that we had studied a wrong course unit.” one of the victims intimated to us.”
The group chastised the offices within university which they claim deliberately refused to come to their aid. However, they found solace in the vice Chancellor Prof. Ddumba Ssentamu who agreed to let them study the course unit at the university’s cost. ” A management meeting was held, earlier this week where it was agreed that an emergency crash programme would be instituted to allow the students complete the course before they graduate.” intimated the vice chancellor.
The wider community of aggrieved students students set to miss the 66th either have missing marks or are yet to clear with their academic colleges, faculties or schools.
Prospective graduates are also required to have cleared with their halls of residence, university library, university hospital, police and finance department as prerequisites to attaining their transcripts. The four day long graduation will run from Monday 18th to Thursday 21st at the Freedom square. The highlight of the period will be the installation of Prof. Ezra Suruma as Chancellor!
