Drug addiction is an anchor that chains the addict to extreme dependence. It’s not in dispute that many university students find solace in drugs amid the turbulent times spawned out of academic and relationship frustrations.
The absence of counselling centres and therefore absence of professional people to talk to often compels students to revert to alcohol and drugs. Uganda Christian University might reconsider changing it’s name to Uganda Cocaine University.
The only thing that appears Christian about UCU is its leadership. Yesterday, the luck of a fourth year law student battling drug addiction ran out, like the proverbial 40 days, a concerned resident tipped off police about the sinister and routine drug purchase, trade and indulgence by the gentleman identified as Robinson Barukech.
The fellow was consequently found fraglante-delicto purchasing cocaine and other illicit drugs and forcibly apprehended by police at a makeshift drug haven in Kireka. Robinson clad in a suit and tie didn’t deny the charges, confiding in police his trials and tribulations. He claimed he only concentrates upon “loading airtime to his head.” It’s feared he is part of a drug ratchet that feeds university students on the illicit substances.
Bwana Robinson was reluctant in recording a statement citing the absence of his lawyer as the reason. He finally agreed to record a statement. A file was opened for his case, where he stands charged with being a public nuisance and for possession of contraband. The file number at Kireka police reads; SD ref 39/18/01/2016.
