The Muk school of law today hosted key note speakers. Nobert Mao, Rtd Bishop Zac Niriginye , Maria Matembe, Ken Lukyamuzi ‘the man’, Nicholas opiyo, from Uganda Law Society and on the other side was the presidential aide, Sarah Mutesi.
The key note speaker Counsel Opiyo raised the abuse of law issue, blaming the disregard of the constitution on the culture of impunity of leaders, after abusing the law.
Maria Matembe chastised the one man mentality of the state ,where one man runs a party, runs the state, to the disadvantage of the other arms of government ;ie, The judiciary and the parliament.
Sarah Mutesi poured cold water on Miria Matembe’s statement, reference to the Bible on Moses leaving and Joshua taking the mantle of leading the Israelites. She instead quoted the book of Numbers 27:17 saying; just like Moses chose a man with the spirit, the party still was looking for the man with the spirit to replace M7.
Mao said Makerere is blessed with the most grey matter per square unit. He referred to some parties as “twirling plants on the state. “
And others as brief case ideals of individuals, he commended the longevity of DP.
“The journey from Sinai to the promised land takes11 days on foot, …why did it take 40 years. ..confusion and lack of catalysts,” Mao noted.
Mao implored students to Be critical thinkers ,he claims he from the start knew m7 lacked the DNA of democracy. Parameters of a good country according to Mao are;
Democracy
National unity
A sound Economy
The strong military institution
This dialogue was attended by mainly ‘serious’ students.
