The 2026 national elections are drawing near and a new wave of youthful leaders is emerging in Uganda.
From participating in University politics to potentially shaping the country’s future, these young leaders are poised to make their mark in national politics.
The Bee brings you a list of of some former student leaders who have been bold enough to step foot into national politics.
Maseruka Robert
The 89th Guild President of Makerere University is looking forward to becoming the youngest legislator in the 12th parliament.
From representing his school as GRC in the 88th government to becoming guild president in the 89th, Maseruka Robert is currently eyeing the Mukono South seat.
Alupo Mercy Marion
Alupo Mercy Marion, the 18th guild deputy prime minister at Kyambogo University, who also made an unsuccessful attempt at the guild presidential seat, has taken a bold step to try ousting the speaker of Parliament Anita Among.
Alupo wants to represent the people of Bukedea as their woman MP come 2026.
Lenia Charity
Having served as the vice president at Makerere University Business School, Lenia made an attempt to succeed her boss and occupy the top guild seat but lost to Wasswa Christopher.
Lenia is readying herself for 2026 and she has since crossed from NUP to NRM in a strategic move to become the next MP for Vurra.
Shamim Nambassa
Makerere University’s 87th guild president and self-proclaimed health minister in the ‘Kyagulanyi government’ seems baffled. With many pushing her to make an attempt at ousting Kampala woman MP Shamim Malende, Nambassa remains indecisive.
With another option at her table of ousting the KCCA deputy lord mayor Doreen Nyagura, Nambassa is yet to decide on which lion to attack.
Roy Ssemboga
Makerere University’s 82nd guild president is determined to make a second attempt to become MP representing Kawempe South.
Ssemboga who was denied a NUP card in 2021 is moving rather more calculative to avoid suffering another defeat. However, he is limited by by NUP’s willingness to trust him with it’s flag in 2026.
Gold Ikyiriza
Gold Ikyiriza, currently serving as the vice president Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) is making baby steps to become the next National Female Youth MP.
The position is currently occupied by State minister for minerals Phionah Nyamutoro.
Kateregga Julius
The lord councillor for Kawempe South 1 is looking forward to elevating himself to become the area MP, replacing the party’s ‘infamous’ Bashiru Kazibwe.
Unfortunately, the lord councillor’s political career is not that clean either. He is marred with allegations of having abandoned his constituency since his election in 2021.
Musiri David
Former guild aspirant and NUP’s head of institutions Musiri David is eyeing the Makindye West seat.
From changing his hair style from rastafarian to a gentleman cut to dumping Dr. Stella Nyanzi for a younger woman, Musiri is surely determined to earn his spot in the 12th parliament at any cost.
Oguttu Aaron
Aaron Oguttu, the former 86th Makerere University guild aspirant wants to rewrite his political history. Oguttu is eyeing the Bukooli North MP seat.
Judith Nalukwago
Makerere University’s 85th vice guild president has resurfaced after a long time of silence. Nalukwago has of late become a must-attendee for NUP’s events.
Makerere University’s formerly celebrated iron lady is struggling to get the red card to representing Makindye East 1 as lord councillor come 2026. Nalukwago is only praying that the incumbent KCCA speaker Zahara Luyirika doesn’t come back to reclaim her seat.
Kamoga Bruno
Former MUBS guild president Kamoga Bruno is running for lord councillor in Nakawa West.
