Makerere University, through its public relations office, in an official statement released on Monday, has urged the public not to be too quick to judge the lecturer who is alleged of raping and infecting a first year student with HIV.
“According to Article 28 (3) (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda 1995 as amended, the accused member of staff is presumed innocent until the contrary is proved,” read the statement.
“The case has been reported to the Uganda Police Force. We await the outcome of the Police investigations.”
“Makerere University strongly condemns any act of misconduct by staff and students and will fully cooperate in the ongoing investigation.”
