Bishop Stuart University (BSU) students who were remanded to Ntungamo government prison early this week, will miss their exams after failing to secure bail.
On Monday 11 October 2021, Mbarara Grade I magistrate Doreen Ainembabazi, charged and remanded 29 students on accounts of rescuing a suspect from lawful custody, Wrongful confinement, inciting Violence and Malicious damage.
According to Rose Rwankore, the University’s Public Relations officer, the University started exams on Wednesday and the remanded students did not do the first papers after their efforts to have them bailed out of jail, fell on a deaf hear.
Rwankole, says, four out of the 29 students have managed to get bail and efforts to get others out are ongoing. She says, the university has resolved to set special exams for the remanded students as soon as they are out of jail.
The students are expected to come back to court on 9th November 2021
