Today (11th Jan 2022), 29 Bishop Stuart University Students are expected to appear before the magistrate in Mbarara court for the third time.
These including the current Guild President H.E Emma, former cabinet ministers of 2020-2021 were remanded to prison on cases of rescuing a prisoner from police (former Guild President Abaho Wilison), locking a person in office (the University Secretary), inciting violence, malicious damages.
These were arrested and taken to Mbarara central police station where they spent three nights before taken to court on 11th Oct 2021 and remanded to Ntungamo prison where they spent other three days before they got bailed out.
All this happened when Abaho’s Government had a meeting about elections on 8th Oct 2021. Shortly after the meeting, police arrested Guild President Abaho Wilson to answer issues related to the accident he had caused a few days earlier. This prompted 29 Students to exchange words with police, resulting into their arrest.
Other students arrested include Nuwamanya Benjamin – guild candidate of 2020-2021, Mugabe Alex guild candidate of 2021-2022,Kato Bruno the current presidential secretary, Benard current minister for presidency among others.
