A total of 40 army officers graduated with Master’s of Arts Degree in Defence and Security today Thursday 28th June at the Senior Staff and Command College, Kimaka in Jinja district. Among the fresh graduands, nine were from neighbouring countries of Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi and South Africa.
The college’s 13th graduation ceremony was graced by the State Minister for Defence, Col. Charles Engola who told the graduands that the knowledge attained during the course will help them in the 21st century by equipping them with awareness in regards to the nature and extent of threats faced by their countries.
“I believe the knowledge will help the officers develop their professional competencies and also create awareness on the threats that the continent and world at large face in the dynamic security environment and the role of armed forces in tackling those threats,” said Mr.Engola while speaking at the graduation ceremony.
Also, the function was attended by the Chief of Defence Forces in the UPDF, Gen. David Muhoozi who warned the graduands that achievements comes with a lot of expectations as he revealed that he will be waiting for the value they will add to their work following their new milestones.
Since its establishment in 2004 with a mandate to train and professionalize officers in a bid to prepare them to assume high responsibilities in command and staff roles, a total of 505 officers have gone through the college including the freshly graduated officers.
